What are Extractions?
Extractions are the complete removal of tooth structure due to extensive cavities, infections, spacing/crowding issues, or other needs in your oral health care.

Avoids Crowding
Tooth removal may be necessary to help your teeth stay straight and avoid crowding.
Improves Oral Health
Tooth removal can start your new journey from disease prevention to complete restoration.
How will it work?
The team at EOS will work with your dentist office to determine the tooth/teeth needed for removal and subsequent plans.
Consultation
Depending on what tooth/teeth need to be extracted, we may opt to do the consultation on the day of your procedure or a separate appointment. We will review your medical history, perform a clinical examination and review any X-rays.
Extraction
Your tooth/teeth will be extracted with expert surgical care making sure you are as comfortable as possible, which will include anesthetics and may include sedation or laughing gas.
Socket Preservation/Grafting
Depending on your tooth and treatment plan, our doctors may offer a grafting solution at the time of your extraction to preserve your bone for future treatments like dental implants, if possible. This will be done on the day of your extraction immediately following the removal of the tooth/teeth.
Recovery
Post-extraction care includes managing pain, reducing swelling, and following specific aftercare instructions to promote healing. Are there any risks?
Complications are rare but can include infection, dry socket, or damage to surrounding teeth and tissues.

What are some reasons my tooth/teeth need to be removed?
Tooth extraction is required when a dentist evaluates the tooth and deems the tooth non-restorable due to cavities, gum disease, or other pathology reasons. Teeth also may be recommended for removal due to spacing, esthetics, trauma, or congenital conditions. We will work with you and your dental provider to ensure that the extraction is necessary.
How much will it cost?
Extraction costs can vary but you can rest assured that our team will work with you to make sure you are well informed of the cost of treatment prior to performing the extraction. If you have dental insurance, we can review what benefits are available to you and what your insurance plan may cover.
When can I return to work or school after the tooth extraction?
Every patient’s healing and recovery periods vary, as well as the extraction procedure itself. We do have some patients who are able to go back to work/school immediately after, and others who prefer to return in a few days. Regardless of which path your extraction may take, we will make sure to review your recovery process with you before you leave.
What can I eat after the tooth extraction?
Our team will review this with you again in detail during your appointment, but generally, we ask you stay on a soft-chew diet while you are healing. You can add firmer textures as you can tolerate. We also ask you avoid using straws to prevent delayed healing as well as carbonated beverages and hot foods and drinks.
Can I drive myself to and from the office?
Depending on your anesthesia options, if you choose to do the procedure without sedation, you may be able to drive yourself. Some patients like to have someone drive them for comfort or peace of mind. Just remember that you do need a driver with you present in the office if you choose to be sedated.
What should I be looking for or worried about after my extraction?
Our team will be available for any questions after your procedure but if you feel that you have an infection with fever, significant swelling and/or redness, or pain that is different than the initial healing, please call us for an evaluation and treatment.
