Your Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Full Mouth Dental Implants

When you’re considering full mouth dental implants, it’s natural to wonder: What will the experience be like—from consultation to recovery?

At EOS Oral Surgery, we believe that understanding your journey is one of the most important parts of preparing for a confident, comfortable outcome. Full mouth implants, also known as All-on-X implants, offer a life-changing solution for those who have experienced significant tooth loss—giving you a secure, natural-looking smile and restoring full function.

Here’s what your experience looks like when you trust your smile to EOS.

Step 1: Consultation and Treatment Planning

Your journey starts with a personal consultation at one of our convenient Twin Cities locations.

During this visit:

  • Our team will assess your dental health with a clinical exam, X-rays, and a 3D scan.
  • If your jawbone has weakened because of tooth loss, we may recommend bone grafting to help create a stable foundation for your implants.
  • We’ll discuss your goals, your lifestyle, and any concerns you have.
  • Together with your restorative dentist, we’ll design a customized treatment plan focused on achieving your healthiest, most natural smile.

“We work closely with your dental team to make sure your final smile feels as natural and healthy as possible.”
Dr. Diana Jee Hyun Lyu, Board-Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Step 2: Preparation and Anesthesia

On your surgery day, comfort is our priority.

Depending on your treatment plan and personal preferences, you’ll receive either:

  • Local anesthesia
  • IV sedation

Our skilled team will walk you through what to expect and ensure you feel completely at ease before we begin.

Step 3: Implant Placement and Temporary Teeth

Once you’re comfortable:

  • Four or more titanium dental implants are placed strategically into your jawbone.
  • These implants serve as the foundation for your new teeth, providing stability and strength.
  • After the implants are placed, a set of temporary teeth is attached the same day.
  • You’ll leave our office with a full smile, able to speak and eat soft foods with confidence.

This same-day smile transformation is one of the reasons why All-on-4 is so impactful.

Step 4: Healing and Recovery

Healing is a critical phase. Over the next few months:

  • Your implants will undergo osseointegration—fusing securely to your jawbone.
You’ll be given specific instructions for care, including a soft foods diet and guidelines for good oral hygiene.
  • Ice packs during the first 24 hours can help reduce swelling.
  • We’ll schedule follow-up visits to monitor healing and answer any questions along the way.

Step 5: Your New Smile — Final Prosthesis Placement

Once healing is complete:

  • Your temporary teeth will be replaced with a custom-designed permanent set.
  • These final teeth are carefully crafted to match the shape, shade, and function of natural teeth.
  • You’ll leave your final appointment ready to smile, speak, and eat with full confidence again.
